Lubec Channel

This light is located in the middle of the waterway on the far eastern side of Maine. The lighthouse is (roughly) the dividing line between US and Canada. This structure of light is often referred to as a "Spark Plug" type of light because of how it is built. This light was built in 1890. In 1989 the Coast Guard announced plans to abandon the tower, moving the optic and lantern to a shore location, rather than spend the estimated $1 million to repair the light. The efforts of concerned Lubec residents and the Maine Historic Preservation Commission enabled the light to be restored at a cost of about $700,000
